Amerisips Homes Charleston Custom Home Builder
Sep 112013

On June 19, 2013, Amerisips Homes welcomed local Charleston real estate professionals to the CEU class focused on the Future of Green Building. The SIPs constructed Platinum LEED Certified home served as the classroom as the Housing Paradigm Shift was introduced.

The paradigm shift compared past and current building practices against the future ( and Amerisips Homes) building practices. Those include:

Quality building & energy efficiency not priorities Better quality buildings & energy efficiency will be required by buyers
No quality standards or measurement criteria Quantitative measures for quality assurance
1-2 year building process was acceptable Reduced time to build, attracting resale buyers
25-35% materials waste was acceptable Cost of waste is unacceptable

LEED for Homes is the definitive measurement for building, measuring the overall performance of a home and focused on:

  • Innovation & Design process
  • Location & Linkages
  • Sustainable Sites
  • Water Efficiency
  • Energy & Atmosphere
  • Materials & Resources
  • Indoor Environment Quality
  • Awareness & Education
LEED Certification Levels

Certified 45-90 points
Silver 60-74 points
Gold 75-89 points
Platinum 90-136 points

Five Principles of Sustainability

  1. Optimize use of sun
  2. Improve indoor air quality
  3. Use the land responsibly
  4. Create high-performance and moisture-resistant houses
  5. Wisely use the earth’s natural resources

Our next article will demonstrate the High Performance Building Envelope and articulate some of the building sciences that play into it’s creation. The following images were taken of the Education for Realtors as approved by the National Association of Realtors.
